Built for Better Patterns

About Patternmaster

Precision-engineered choke tubes delivering tighter patterns and shorter shot strings since 1993.

Innovation that changed the way shot hits

Patternmaster pioneered a non-constrictive approach to shotgun performance, using a patented stud-ring to momentarily control the wad and let the shot continue—producing a much shorter, denser shot string and heavier energy on target. Decades of R&D showed that where the stud ring sits inside the tube determines pattern behavior, which is why Patternmaster describes tubes by functional range rather than old-school constrictions. Today, game-specific Code Black tubes and other lines apply this wad-stripping science—often in 17-4 PH stainless with a bronze titanium finish—to deliver consistent, lethal patterns across modern loads.

Science of Shot
Our non-constrictive approach uses internal geometry—not squeeze—to shape denser, more consistent patterns.
Built for Hunters
Field-proven engineering focused on lethal patterns, ethical harvests, and reliability in any weather.

Milestones

Early 1990s
Larry Leutenegger prototypes a stud-ring inside a screw-in choke to pause the wad for a millisecond—aimed at shortening shot string without relying on constriction.
Breakthrough R&D
Finds that stud-ring placement inside the tube controls pattern behavior; begins describing tubes by range (Short/Mid/Long/Extended) rather than traditional constrictions.
“Science of Shot” era
Brand positions itself as the world’s only non-constrictive choke, centered on patented wad-stripping tech and the stud ring.
Product systemization
Launch and growth of Code Black game-specific lines; most use the stud ring (Turkey variant uses 3-phase constriction).
